New Years Resolutions

Whew... the Holiday Season is behind us and we are all back to work and school. Well, the school day will end and Johnny will be running home to play with that new X-Box Santa brought him, or start texting feverishly on the new cell phone Gramma bought or maybe the new PSP Auntie just had to get!

Sound familiar? Well... a resolution you should have for the new year, and beyond, is to be sure to limit children's time with these electronic devices. Studies have shown that too much electronic play has negative results for children. The child suffers as well as the family.

It is a quick fix. It distracts, entertains, but when all is said and done, Johnny's grades are slipping, and socially, no one can understand why he truly is challenged in a group setting.

Well, the reasons, though obvious to some, are mostly missed by busy parents. Please see the article below from the CBS Interactive Business Network:

The effects of video games on children: what parents need to know.

If good 'ole St. Nick didn't bring any good 'ole fashioned board games, maybe you should solicit Cupid to bring a good educational game come February. There are some great games on the market that are fun to play for the whole family! Visit Mindware or Discovery Toys for options. One of my favorites? Bananagrams! What a fun game! It entertained my entire family for hours over the Holiday Vacation, even Gramma!
