Shelby Lyn Allen, the 17-year-old girl found dead last month (2009)at an Old Alturas Road home, died of alcohol poisoning after several hours of heavy drinking, according to a Shasta County Coroner's Office report.
Allen's blood alcohol level was 0.33 percent, according to the report.
"This sad, preventable situation illustrates in the most painful way the need for alcohol poisoning education," Steve Allen, Shelby's father, said Tuesday.
Allen and his wife, Debbie, have launched an educational campaign so other children and their families need not suffer the tragedy that has struck them.
At 1 a.m. Dec. 20, Shelby Allen, a Foothill High School junior, went with a 16-year-old friend to the house between Redding and Bella Vista where they met a third friend, age 14, according to the coroner's report.
